Keynote Presentation – Deena Baxter, a published author and wellness advocate presented “SURVIVING SUICIDE – Mending the Family Tree with Heartache, Art and Humor.”  In 2014, Deena launched The Surviving Suicide & Sudden Loss Project in partnership with NAMI of Collier County, FL. The project includes both a book and creative arts website with a mission to promote life-affirming mental wellness.  The book, titled SURVIVING SUICIDE – Searching for “Normal” with Heartache and Humor, received the Mascot Books 2014 Outstanding Author Award for Non-Fiction.

Presenters – The 2017 conference featured an outstanding selection of speakers:  Child psychiatrist Christina Gesmundo, MD FABPN discussing bipolar disorder; Dr. Hemant Thakur presenting on Veterans & PTSD; Ronda Reitz, PhD, Missouri’s leading expert on dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT); Christy Hutton, PhD, discussing recovery; Austin Campbell, Pharm D, provided the latest information on medication and research; and Todd Williams presenting on working with youth.

NAMI Missouri would like to thank everyone that made the 2017 conference such a success, including the presenters, attendees, and the conference planning committee.  The conference would not have been possible without the generous sponsors, all of the exhibitors, and everyone that participated in the silent auction, both donors and bidders.   Thank you!
